On the weekend of June 21and 22 the 8th US-POLSAT Golf Tournament was held in Central New York State. It is one of the annual outing that PAGA –New York is organizing in a beautiful little town surrounded by mountains playing at the Hanah Golf and Country Club. For many years Chicago golfers traveled to this mountain retreat and took home almost everything what was to win there. Not this year. After the first day only Joe Lisiecki was on top leading in the net score and young Adam Kaleniak was fifth in the gross. After first day and 27 holes played (18 plus 9) our small PAGC contingent was in good position to improve the next day. Pawel Gasior and his friends from PAGA had a nice surprise for us in the evening. We were invited to party at the 19th hole by the bonfire with a pig roust and a couple of a beer kegs. We met new and old friends, exchange jokes and golf stories. The next day weather was nice again but it mast be more windy because our balls were flying left and right. Scores did not improve much but we can all agree that we had a good time and will come back again next year.
Congratulation to Pawel Gasior, Henry Lajca, Marek Kwoka and the rest of the PAGA for organizing this event.

2007 PAGC Spring Championship
On March 31, 2007, the first tournament of the season organized by the PAGC club took place. The tournament was held in Indian Lakes Golf Club. All players were welcome to join us in our event. 33 players were to participate in the championship; only two did not make it. The weather was predicted to be rainy and cloudy, however after the first few holes, the sun finally appeared amongst the clouds. The atmosphere was great. All golfers were eager to play again after a long and cold winter. There were winners in the competition for gross and net. There were trophies to the closest pin and the longest drive as well. Towards the end of the gross competition, both Igor Matyjek and Lucjan Niemiec scored 81. After playing a sudden death match to determine who would win gross, Igor Matyjek took the spot for first place, followed by Lucjan Niemiec in second. For third place in gross, Piotr Wysocki and Wojtek Radzajewski both scored 82 and had to play a playoff to determine who would take third. In the net competition, the title for first place was taken by Bartek Homenda. Second place was won by Marek Drab and third was won by Zbyszek Kazmierczak. For the whole scoreboard, click here. In the longest drive competition, the trophy was scored by Joe Mucha. The trophy for the closest to the pin competition was taken by Zbyszek Kazmierczak. The trophies were presented to the winners by PAGC’s own president, Jacek Kusznerko. Special thanks to Ryszard Mroz, who was the chairman for the spring event and thanks to him, the event was organized well. After playing for about 5 hours in the pleasant weather, the golfers left the course to relax with a round of beers and small talk. The PAGC board members would like to thank all participants, all members of PAGC, and members of the Polonia Golf Club for taking part in this season’s tournament. We would like to thank the Indian Lakes Resort management for letting us organize the successful championship. click here to see the participants enjoying playing golf.

POLONIA OPEN 2007
While it was below zero here in Chicago, a large group of golf enthusiast met in sunny and warm Florida for our 2007 Polonia Open golf turnament. This annual event was held at the prominent West Palm Beach, Golf and Polo Country Club. This annual golf tournament is put together by dedicated and devoted group of golfers from New York, namely, PAGA (Polish American Golf Association).

The Polonia Open regularly attracts golfers from around the globe whose passion is golf. Each golfer enthusiastically attacks the course showing off their best swing. The second week in February is a time of fun and joyful camaraderie. They come from places such as Canada, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Detroit, and our friends from Poland as well as other European countries. The largest contingent of golf fanatics always comes from Chicago.

In general, the 2007 Polonia Open tournament was a success. Congratulations to Pawel Gasior and the rest of the PAGA members for organizing a very first-class and entertaining tournament. Call us again next year and make sure you reserve more sizes for those champions’ jackets because we’ll come and take them back to Chicago.

Welcome Back!
On behalf of the PAGC board of members, it is our pleasure to welcome back all the members to the new 2007 golf season. A special welcome to our newcomers, thanks to them our club has grown tremendously in the last couple months. We sincerely hope that your new experience with golf will be a pleasant one. We will do our best to accommodate all of your need and expectations, no matter how big or small they may be. Our club will also give you a chance to meet fellow golfers from all around the world. Someone once said that mixing business with pleasure is not a good think. Boy where they wrong. We’re proud to say that this club has mastered this theory and can prove it wrong with out a shadow of doubt. It’s all very simple our pleasure is playing golf, and our business is preserving the Polish Heritage. We achieve this by playing friendly games of golf and donating the proceeds to numerous Polish institutions and charitable organizations. [click here]
This coming season will be one to remember, for we have many exciting and competitive events to look forward to; one and two day tournaments, charitable outings, and a season long golf league. This is only a glimpse of what we have installed for the whole season. These events will give everyone a chance to show off their sportsmanship and most of all new swings. If you are looking for competitive golf, we got it. For the first time our club will be introducing a league where our members and friends will have to battle it out on the golf course. Each player will have to commit to at least 5 rounds of 18 holes to be eligible in the monthly championship. League play will be on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
We would like to announce that this year each member will receive an official handicap index card. PAGC has officially registered with the Chicago District Golf Association, local affiliate of the United States Golf Association. This means that each member will have a chance to play in the USGA sanctioned tournaments and championships. To top that, each player will receive half an hour of free golf lessons conducted by Partner Golf School. For more information about this lesson please feel free to contact the school directly at 773-2862060 or [click here]
For some of our players the season had already started in February. About half of our members went to West Palm Beach, to play in the Polonia Open 3 day tournament. Our young PAGC member Alex Malachowski won the international event shooting 3 rounds in the low 70’s. For those that did not get a chance to go to Florida, our first tournament will be the in-club stroke-play championship on April 7th, followed by match play for the next 2 consecutive weeks. Since the individual handicap index cards will be valid after posting 6 scores, it is imperative that each member has that many scores before the start of the league on May 3.
If you are trying to sort out the dates for all the above mentioned events please don’t worry. We will make sure to notify all members of all events as the will be taking place. I wish everyone a great season.
